The National Gallery Abduction
The National Gallery in Trafalgar Square is one of the first places I wanted to visit on my arrival in London in early 2013. Founded in 1824, it is home to a collection of over 2,300 paintings dating from the mid-13th century to 1900, learning and living art history in a few hours walk admiring artworks by Jan van Eyck, Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent van Gogh, Caravaggio, Claude Monet, Paul Cézanne and much more ! I’ve been walking through them and sketching the past years. There were times that I was visiting the National Gallery 5 times per week, becoming an obsession. In 2021 and 2022 I selected 34 masterpieces and visually abducted them through my sketchbook where I manipulated, distorted and created them back in my own style. A nice video by Luviama that followed up from close and transposed the interaction between Decolife and the National Gallery masterpieces adding her own personal visual interpretation touch.
